How it’s Made: meitheal

by | 9 Sep, 2023

HOW IT’S MADE: meitheal is a series of exhibitions and events focused on production aspects that have an impact on the environment and biodiversity.

HOW IT’S MADE is inviting local and national artists, and scientists to collaborate and come together to activate a debate in Balbriggan, Co. Dublin.
Artists paired with engineering/manufacturing experts will find out how some everyday objects are made (i.e. t-shirts, hamburgers, mobile phones, cars, Lego blocks). The artists from Balbriggan then are invited to create an artful manifestation of the manufacturing process for the group exhibition, meitheal (an old Irish term that describes how neighbours would come together to assist in the saving of crops or in other tasks).

The festivalisation of the project through artist-led projects, installations and in person events will contribute to making Balbriggan a ‘Destination for the Arts’. An experimental approach to locally activated installation projects and talks will intersect arts, culture, heritage, science, nature, sustainability and environment. It will take people and place centred approach; rooted in high quality arts production in the post-industrial Balbriggan’s context.

HOW IT’S MADE: meitheal is coming from an initiative by the arts collective scèal, and it is curated & coordinated by Valeria Ceregini.
